19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult season, winning just one match at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his maiden title following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface from March of 2023.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.

His defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to doubt if his skill to perform at the highest level was finished.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a break down in the first set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his initial professional title, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent saved 4 initial break points in a tight deciding set before the Russian won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the net, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
