The artist contributes twenty-five thousand pounds cash award to independent music venues

Sam Fender received the honor in October in his hometown

The star has donated the full amount of his £25k honor cash to the Music Venues Trust, which works to save the Britain's small music venues.

Fender was awarded the award on October 16 as his latest record People Watching was declared the top album of the previous year.

He has chosen to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function small stages fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I couldn't be pursuing this success if it hadn't been for all the performances I performed around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," stated Sam Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these venues have shut down – roughly 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, major artists like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by adding a small levy to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also participated, raising more than £100,000 on his live tour to assist 38 small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds assisted spaces that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges arising from water damage, blazes and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and sound issues.

Some locations were granted financial assistance in upgrading amenities and sound and lighting systems that helped artists and concertgoers.

"The concept that revenue from performances in big venues helps the independent spots, where it begins for performers like me, is just sensible," Fender has said.

He is far from the only musician to contribute his award funds to charitable organizations.

In Pulp received the award in 1996 for their release Different Class, vocalist the singer declared that the band would contribute their prize money to the charity War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer the artist split her award among multiple organizations, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I gave a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed updated gear," Ms Dynamite told the media.

In recent years, Ezra Collective donated their prize money to the youth organization that supported their act, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

And winners that year the group donated their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was identified with the condition.

"The victory was ample," stated vocalist the singer. "The cash was the bonus but we could do without the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our success affected the lives of others."

Recently, the MVT revealed it had saved a couple of small stages in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The Joiners in the city and the second in the city were acquired under the public acquisition initiative, which is backed by Arts Council England and music fans who purchase "ownership units" in the buildings.
